Snow Early, Cold Air to Follow

Good Monday to you, hope you had a good weekend. This week will be another flash of winter with snow early today and frigid cold to follow. First things first... A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for central and southern Minnesota thru 6am Monday. Snow accumulating 2" to 4" - impacting Monday morning's commute. Be advised that traveling early will be slow. Below is an image of the Winter Weather Advisory thru 6am Wednesday.

Cold Air to Follow

The heart of the Arctic air is still just north of of the international border, but some of this will break off and head southbound Monday night/Tuesday - chilling us down AGAIN. Daytime high temperatures on Tuesday will struggle to get into the single digits above zero with wind chill values likely to stay in the teens below zero for much of the day

Here's the Northern Hemisphere view - note where the purple colors are, this is where the heart
of the Arctic air sits today.

I thought it would be interesting to see how the models are handling the extended forecasts and the Arctic air. The coldest air retreats back north and sets up shop on the other side of the globe, near Asia! This is the extended model run for December 23rd, just before Christmas. So, it appears that after the blast off cold air this week, we may be done with the deep freeze all the way through Christmas!

The End is Nigh
Do you realize that we START gaining daylight on the sunset side tomorrow. Yes!! We gain nearly 10 minutes on the sunset side from now until the end of the month. Here, look for yourself:
